Tata Electronics, ASML Sign Pact To Support India’s First 300 Mm Chip Plant

Tata Electronics has recently signed a partnership agreement with ASML to advance the establishment of India's first 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant, which is set to be located in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). This significant development is part of a broader initiative to boost India’s capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, a critical area for ensuring technological advancement and self-sufficiency in electronics. Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons that was incorporated in December 2020 and is headquartered in Bengaluru, aims to make substantial investments to help harness the growing semiconductor market through this facility. The Dholera semiconductor fab is not only a collaborative effort between Tata Electronics and ASML but also includes plans for the involvement of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (PSMC). A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between Tata Electronics and the Government of Gujarat to facilitate the construction and operation of this pioneering facility. This project is essential for positioning India as a global player in semiconductor manufacturing amidst increasing international demand for advanced chips, which are fundamental components in various modern technologies, from smartphones to automobiles. The establishment of the semiconductor fab in Dholera SIR is crucial for several reasons.
