NextGen signs MoU for ₹10,000-cr semiconductor fab & opto unit in Gujarat

NextGen Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a ₹10,000 crore semiconductor fabrication and optoelectronic unit in Gujarat. The announcement reinforces Gujarat's position as a central hub for semiconductor manufacturing in India, amidst ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s electronics ecosystem. NextGen aims to drive innovations in semiconductor technology, which are vital for a range of applications including consumer electronics, automotive, and telecommunications. This initiative aligns well with previous developments in Dholera, which is rapidly emerging as a pivotal industrial center for semiconductor production. Notably, Tata Electronics and PSMC are collaborating to set up India's first semiconductor fab in Dholera, marking a significant milestone for the nation's advanced manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the site will host a green AI-ready data center with a planned capacity of 250 MW, further enhancing the region's technological infrastructure. Previously, the Union Cabinet approved a project for a ₹3,936 crore GaN-based micro-LED unit, underscoring the sustained investment and commitment to semiconductor innovation in Dholera SIR. The emergence of NextGen's semiconductor facility is of great importance for Dholera SIR, as it solidifies the area’s status as a significant player in the semiconductor supply chain at a national level. The establishment of such facilities is expected to attract further investments, create job opportunities, and promote ancillary industries, creating an ecosystem that could lead to long-term economic benefits. With semiconductors being a critical component in nearly all modern electronics, Dholera's growth into a semiconductor hub is strategically pivotal for India's aspirations of becoming a global manufacturing leader.
