Japanese semiconductor companies visits Dholera SIR to boost India’s semiconductor ambitions

A delegation of leading Japanese semiconductor companies has recently visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as part of an initiative to enhance India’s position in the global semiconductor industry. This visit is critical, considering the global push towards semiconductor self-sufficiency, particularly following supply chain disruptions experienced during the pandemic. The delegation reviewed the progress of construction surrounding India's first semiconductor fab in Dholera, a pivotal project that is set to be developed in collaboration with Tata Electronics and Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC). The development of this semiconductor fabrication plant is slated to be instrumental in establishing a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem. Dholera SIR, which is part of the larger Dholera SMART City project, is strategically positioned to accommodate significant industrial and infrastructural advancements. With projects planned between 2026 and 2035, including an airport and expressway, the region is fast becoming a hub for high-tech industries.
