India's First 220-kmph Ahmedabad Dholera Rail Corridor Approved

The Indian government has granted approval for the country's first semi-high-speed rail corridor, connecting Ahmedabad and Dholera, with a maximum speed of 220 km/h. The initiative is backed by an investment of ₹20,667 crore, earmarked specifically for the construction and operationalization of the rail link. This significant project aims to enhance transportation connectivity between the major urban centers and the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), which is emerging as a key hub for industrial and infrastructural development in Gujarat. The proposed Bhimnath–Dholera Rail Link is a strategic component of Dholera SIR's broader transportation infrastructure, which also includes plans for a metro and Multiple Rail Transit Systems (MRTS) expected to be operational by 2026. This rail corridor will shorten travel times considerably for passengers traveling from Ahmedabad to Dholera, which is expected to catalyze economic growth not only in Dholera but also in the surrounding regions. The project is anticipated to attract investment and promote the development of commercial activities within Dholera SIR, reinforcing its status as an investment destination. This rail corridor is particularly significant for Dholera SIR, considering its objectives to transform the area into an advanced industrial hub.
