Gujarat Targets 7.5 GW Green AI Data Centre Capacity With New Viksit Gujarat Policy 2026-29

The Gujarat government has launched the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29, aiming to position the state as a leader in hyperscale Green AI data centres and digital infrastructure. The policy sets a target of establishing 7.5 GW of data centre capacity, catering to the increasing demand for services related to artificial intelligence and cloud computing. A key component of this initiative is the development of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as one of the largest hyperscale data centre hubs globally, supported by its planned infrastructure. The policy emphasizes sustainable operations by requiring data centre projects to source at least 51% of their electricity from renewable sources. To attract investment, Gujarat offers fiscal incentives and streamlined procedures for setting up operations. The government is encouraging participation from global tech companies and investors to enhance India's digital economy and create employment opportunities.
