Gujarat Inks Rs 1 Lakh Crore MoU with HUDCO to Fund Metro Rail, Expressway and Dholera Projects

The state government of Gujarat has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) valued at ₹1 lakh crore. This substantial financial agreement aims to facilitate critical infrastructure projects, including a metro rail system, expressways, and initiatives in Dholera Smart Industrial City (Dholera SIR). This move is significant as it underscores the state's commitment to enhancing connectivity and supporting the growth of major urban areas, particularly those under development like Dholera. The planned improvements include the Bhimnath-Dholera Rail Link, which envisions a semi-high-speed passenger line connecting Sarkhej in Ahmedabad to Dholera. Additionally, the Gujarat government has secured approval for a mass rapid transit system (MRTS) to link Ahmedabad with Dholera, helping to ease transportation challenges associated with the burgeoning industrial city. Other key upcoming projects for Dholera, set for completion between 2026 and 2035, include an international airport and a semiconductor manufacturing hub, both essential to establishing Dholera as a vital node in Gujarat's economic landscape.
