Gujarat Govt approves Rs 6000 crore Ahmedabad-Dholera SIR Light Rail Project

The Gujarat government has recently approved a significant infrastructure initiative, allocating ₹6,000 crore for the Ahmedabad-Dholera Light Rail Project. This development is part of the broader effort to bolster transportation and connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera, a strategically located smart city in the state. The project aims to enhance public transit options for residents and businesses in the region, facilitating easier movement and supporting Dholera’s growth as a major economic hub. The light rail project is set to complement existing transportation infrastructure such as the Bhimnath-Dholera Rail Link, which is being developed as a semi-high-speed passenger line connecting Sarkhej in Ahmedabad to Dholera. Additionally, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, spanning 109 km, serves as a vital access-controlled route that further integrates Dholera into the state's transport network. This combination of infrastructure initiatives is expected to encourage investment and spur economic activities within Dholera, enhancing its appeal as a destination for industries and residents alike. This new light rail project is particularly significant for Dholera SIR (Special Investment Region), which aims to foster a sustainable urban development model. By enhancing connectivity, it is anticipated that the region will attract more businesses, particularly in the technology and manufacturing sectors, including the semiconductor industry, with a recent ₹3,936 crore project in the pipeline for a GaN-based Micro-LED unit in Dholera.
