Cabinet Approves ₹20,667 Crore Ahmedabad-Dholera Rail Project | Ashwini Vaishnaw

The Union Cabinet of India has recently approved a significant infrastructure initiative with the sanctioning of the ₹20,667 crore Ahmedabad-Dholera semi-high-speed rail project. This railway corridor aims to enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad and the emerging smart city of Dholera, expected to play a pivotal role in the economic landscape of Gujarat and India as a whole. The initiative underscores the government's commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure and catalyzing regional development. The rail project will feature semi-high-speed trains, significantly reducing travel time between these two key locations, thereby facilitating not only passenger travel but also enhancing freight movement. Dholera is strategically positioned as a Smart City and is being developed as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) initiative. The proposed Ahmedabad-Dholera rail link will support the Bhimnath–Dholera Rail Link project, further interlinking urban centers and contributing to economic advancement. The region has already attracted investment in advanced technologies, such as the ₹3,936 crore semiconductor project that is set to establish India's first GaN-based Micro-LED unit in Dholera, reflecting a broader push for high-tech industrialization in the area.
