ASML and Tata Electronics sign MoU to support India’s first commercial semiconductor fab

ASML, a leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Electronics to support the establishment of India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility. This landmark agreement underlines the strategic collaboration aimed at advancing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India, a sector that has garnered significant attention amid global supply chain deficiencies. Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons established in December 2020 and headquartered in Bengaluru, is at the forefront of this initiative, partnering with Taiwan’s PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation) to develop the facility located within the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). The Dholera semiconductor fab is set to play a crucial role in positioning India as a competitive player in the semiconductor market. The MoU between Tata Electronics and ASML represents a vital step in acquiring the necessary technology and infrastructure to enable domestic semiconductor production, which is critical for various sectors, including automotive, telecommunications, and consumer electronics.
